2025 Fashion Trends That Will Carry Us Into 2026 (And What We’re Leaving Behind)

January 29, 2026

Fashion is shifting again, not dramatically, but deliberately. As we move out of 2025 and look ahead to 2026, the trends that last are the ones that feel wearable, polished and adaptable to real life. Here’s what I see staying  and what we can confidently start letting go of.

HERE TO STAY FOR 2026

1. Dark, Clean Denim

Denim isn’t going anywhere, but the finish is changing. Lighter washes and heavy distressing are making way for dark indigo, inky blue and true black denim with a clean, refined look.

Why it’s staying:
It feels smarter, more versatile and works just as well with tailoring as it does with knitwear. This is denim that fits into a grown-up wardrobe.

Look for:
Dark straight-leg jeans, raw-hem denim, dark denim midi skirts, structured denim jackets.

2. Checks & Modern Preppy

Checks are back in a big way but styled in a more effortless, modern manner. Think Prince of Wales, subtle plaid and soft gingham in neutral tones like camel, navy, grey and chocolate brown.

Why it’s staying:
It’s timeless, polished and easy to wear whether you’re dressing for work, weekends or travel.

Look for:
Checked blazers, tailored trousers, midi skirts, loafers in tan or burgundy, crisp shirts in white or soft blue.

3. Texture-Led Trousers (Especially Corduroy)

We’re seeing a move away from flat fabrics and towards texture with corduroy leading the way. Best worn in chocolate brown, olive, camel, rust and deep navy.

Why it’s staying:
Texture adds interest without being loud. Corduroy feels warm, flattering and far more elevated than people expect.

Look for:
Wide-leg cord trousers, straight-cut cords, textured blazers or skirts in rich autumnal shades.

4. Luxe Faux-Fur & Elevated Outerwear

Outerwear is becoming more intentional. Faux-fur coats and plush textures in cream, mocha, soft grey, chocolate and black are replacing trend-led jackets.

Why it’s staying:
It instantly elevates an outfit and feels like an investment piece — even on the high street.

Look for:
Midi faux-fur coats, cropped faux-fur jackets, elegant winter coats with a soft, structured shape.

TRENDS WE’RE LEAVING IN 2025

1. Full Y2K Styling

Low-rise jeans, butterfly details, rhinestones and overt 2000s nostalgia are starting to feel dated when worn head-to-toe.

What’s changing:
We’re keeping subtle references, but moving towards a more timeless, grown-up approach.

2. Cargo & Utility Trousers

Cargo trousers had their moment, but oversized pockets and overly casual silhouettes are being replaced by cleaner, more tailored shapes.

What’s replacing them:
Straight-leg trousers, textured fabrics and refined casual styles.

3. Neon & Overly Bright Colour Blocking

Neon green, fluorescent pink and high-impact brights worn all over are starting to fall away.

What’s replacing them:
Richer, more wearable tones, think burgundy, chocolate, olive, navy and soft neutrals.

4. Ultra-Tiny Micro Bags

The bags that barely fit a phone are losing their appeal.

What’s replacing them:
Practical, structured bags that still look stylish, shoulder bags, medium totes and soft leather styles.

Style with: Longline blazers, fine knitwear, ankle boots or loafers.

In Summary

2026 is shaping up to be about polish over gimmicks, texture over trends, and wearability over novelty. These are the kinds of pieces that work harder in your wardrobe and that’s exactly where smart style is heading.
